The best pressure washer hoses and reels for 2026

The hose is the part most owners replace first, usually because it kinked at the gun and split. We cover length against pressure loss, single and double braid, swivel couplings that stop the hose twisting around your legs, and reels — plus the connector standards, which differ by brand and sometimes by model year.

Which one for which need

Going round the house without unplugging

Every move of the machine costs a stop and a reconnection. The stated length decides how often you walk back for the unit.

Taking the machine's pressure

A hose is chosen above the unit's working pressure, margin included. The stated maximum pressure is the only figure that protects against a pressure surge.

Who each type suits

Large yard or long garden
Length saves moving the machine, and a machine you do not move does not end up lying in a puddle. It is the first accessory to change on an entry-level machine.
Frequent use
A textile-braided hose resists kinking and wall corners. It is the part that fails first on these machines, far ahead of the pump.
A hose that fits in a cupboard
A wall reel completely changes your relationship with the machine: a hose you unroll in ten seconds gets used, a hose in a knot in a corner puts you off.

The trade-offs to weigh

Length against pressure loss
Every extra metre costs a little pressure at the nozzle. Twenty metres stays comfortable on a domestic machine; beyond that, the loss becomes noticeable on low-powered models.
Flexibility against toughness
A flexible hose handles well and kinks. A braided hose holds up and bends badly in cold weather. The second lasts longer, the first gets used more willingly.
Reel against space
A reel protects the hose and takes up a wall. Without one, the hose is damaged by repeated bending, always in the same place.

Questions buyers ask

Does a longer hose lose pressure?

Yes, moderately. On a domestic machine, ten extra metres are barely felt; on a weak machine, the difference becomes perceptible at the nozzle. Internal diameter counts as much as length.

Can an existing hose be extended?

With a connector rated for the working pressure, yes. An ordinary garden connector will not take it and gives way under pressure, which is dangerous near a face.

How do I recognise a compatible hose?

By the connector type on the machine side — each brand has its own — and by the permitted pressure, which must exceed your machine's. Both are on the packaging.

Why does my hose kink constantly?

An unbraided hose kinks structurally. Unrolling it fully before use and rewinding it the same way solves the majority of cases.

What does the internal diameter mean?

It determines the flow the hose lets through. A wider diameter reduces pressure loss over long runs, and makes the hose stiffer.

Can a hose be repaired?

A clean cut can be repaired with a joining connector rated for the pressure. A leak along the sleeve means the reinforcement has broken: the hose is for replacement.

Should it be stored empty?

Yes, and out of frost. Water left inside freezes, expands and splits the sleeve from within — the leak only shows up in spring, under pressure.

Is a steel-braided hose better than a textile one?

Steel reinforcement holds pressure better and twists less, but it rusts at a kink once the cover is pierced. Textile reinforcement stays supple in the cold, and that is what counts in winter.

What to remember

The hose is the number one wear part on these machines, and often the best purchase you can make for an entry-level one. Check the connector and the permitted pressure, prefer braided if you use it often, and drain it before winter.
