The best petrol pressure washers for 2026

Petrol machines exist for the jobs a socket cannot reach: field gates, farm yards, long driveways, sites without power. They deliver pressure a domestic mains machine cannot, and they bring an engine to maintain and an exhaust that rules out enclosed spaces. What separates them is not the engine badge but the pump — axial or triplex, and whether its seals can be replaced.

The models we recommend

  1. CHERIKIU 7.5 hp Petrol Washer

    170–190 bar · 3 400 rpm · axial cam pump · self-priming

A modest pressure range honestly stated, on an axial pump — the cheapest way into petrol here.

Best for: Occasional work away from a socket — a smallholding, a boat yard, a second property

    7.2/10

    ≈ 180 €

  2. VEVOR 3400 PSI

    3 400 PSI (≈ 234 bar) · 10 l/min · 210 cc · aluminium pump

Specified in PSI and GPM, with an aluminium pump — read the units before comparing it with anything European.

Best for: Occasional heavy outdoor work where budget matters more than brand support

    7.8/10

    ≈ 260 €

  3. Güde Fuel 250

    234 bar working · 590 l/h · 5.9 hp four-stroke · 9 m hose

The only machine on this site that publishes a working pressure and a flow rate together.

Best for: Farmyards, contractors and large properties without power at the far end

    8.4/10

    ≈ 290 €

  4. Scheppach HCP5000

    241 bar max · 221 bar working · 5.9 hp 212 cc · 9.2 m hose

The rare petrol machine that publishes a working pressure as well as a maximum.

Best for: Yards, farm machinery, long concrete drives and any site with no electricity

    8.4/10

    ≈ £380 / 295 €

Which one for which need

Cleaning far from any socket

That is the only reason to buy petrol. No forty-metre extension lead heating up, no breaker tripping at start-up: the machine goes where the van goes.

Güde Fuel 250

Stripping a large surface

On a whole yard or a whole wall, it is the flow rate that decides what time you finish. Pressure only lifts; the volume of water carries away.

VEVOR 3400 PSI

A contained budget

An entry-level petrol machine is still heavier and louder than an electric, but it depends on no socket at all. If that is the only need, there is no point paying for the bigger engine.

Who each type suits

Site without electricity
The case where petrol has no competitor. Above all check the tank capacity: a machine you refill every twenty minutes turns a morning's work into a series of trips.
Occasional professional use
Look at whether the pump can be resealed rather than replaced. That is what separates a machine you keep for ten years from one you throw away at the first leak.
Farm or stable yard
Muddy machinery, no socket within reach and water from a tank: this is where a petrol unit earns its place, provided you accept refuelling and oil changes.

The trade-offs to weigh

Running time against weight
A bigger tank means fewer stops and a machine you can no longer lift into a trailer alone. On flat ground with a trolley, the trade-off leans towards the big tank; on a sloping site, the opposite.
Noise against power
A petrol machine does not let itself be forgotten. In a residential area, the extra power comes with a noise level that limits the hours when you can use it.
Maintenance against simplicity
A petrol engine needs oil, a spark plug and an air filter. That is the price of electrical independence, and it is what nobody counts at the moment of purchase.

Questions buyers ask

Is a petrol washer more powerful than an electric one?

Often, but not always, and it is rarely the right question. An entry-level petrol machine can deliver less than a good electric. What it really brings is freedom from a socket and tolerance for long sessions.

What fuel and what maintenance should I expect?

Ordinary unleaded petrol, an engine oil change according to hours of use, and an air filter to check after every dusty job. Neglecting the oil is the leading cause of failure.

Can it be used in a flat or a closed garage?

No. A petrol engine produces carbon monoxide, odourless and lethal in an enclosed space. It is used outdoors, away from openings.

How should it be stored between seasons?

Drain the water from the pump, drain or stabilise the petrol, and store it out of frost. Petrol left six months in a carburettor gums it up, and that guarantees a starting failure in spring.

Does it need a pressurised water feed?

Many petrol models accept drawing from a tank, which domestic electrics almost always refuse. Check it explicitly: it is often the very reason for the purchase.

Can the pump be repaired?

On entry-level axial-pump models, rarely. On swash-plate or crankshaft pumps, seal kits exist and completely change the machine's life expectancy.

How long can it run at a stretch?

Far longer than a domestic electric, which cuts out or overheats after about twenty minutes. Long sessions are precisely what you pay petrol for.

Can the engine be replaced on its own?

On machines with a standard engine mount, yes, and that is what extends the pump's life. Monobloc models are scrapped whole: the spec sheet says which is which.

What to remember

Petrol is not bought for power but for independence. If you have a socket within reach, a good electric will do the job with less noise and zero maintenance. If you have not, look at the tank, at whether the pump can be repaired, and accept the oil change that comes with it.
