The best push sweepers for 2026

A sweeper covers in twenty minutes what a broom takes an afternoon to do, and it is the least glamorous machine on this site. What matters is working width against storage width, brush height adjustment, and hopper size — a large hopper you empty once beats a small one you empty eleven times.

The models we recommend

  1. VEVOR Manual Sweeper 650 mm

    650 mm width · 18.9 l hopper · 9.1 kg · folding handle

Six hundred and fifty millimetres and nine kilos — the lightest sweeper here, with a handle that folds.

Best for: A terrace or a short drive where storage space is the binding constraint

    7.5/10

    ≈ $88 / 93 €

  2. Güde GKM 700

    700 mm width · 2 000 m²/h · 14 l hopper · manual

The widest sweep in the budget half of this group, with the smallest hopper behind it.

Best for: Long, open, hard-surfaced areas where sweeping width saves passes

    6.9/10

    ≈ £120 / 78 €

  3. HEMMDAL HKM65

    650 mm width · 2 600 m²/h · 20 l container · dry surfaces

Twenty litres and 2 600 m²/h, sold in three of the five European stores we check.

Best for: A drive or yard in Germany, the UK or France, where price decides

    6.9/10

    ≈ 77 €

  4. Scheppach S800

    650 mm width · 2 600 m²/h · 20 l basket · three-brush system

Three brushes and a 20-litre basket for the price of a good broom and a bin.

Best for: A drive or a yard where the job is dry leaves, grit and general debris

    6.9/10

    ≈ £115 / 83 €

  5. Cleancraft HKM 700

    700 mm width · 20 l hopper · tandem roller system

A tandem roller system that picks up flat paper and drink cans — the test cheap sweepers fail.

Best for: Forecourts, workshop floors and shared drives — mixed debris, regularly, for years

    8.1/10

    ≈ £205 / 99 €

  6. Kärcher S 3 Twin 2-in-1

    650 mm width · 1 800 m²/h · 16 l hopper · 9.7 kg · two side brushes

Two side brushes and a 16-litre hopper: the sweeper you push once rather than the broom you swing all afternoon.

Best for: Terraces, paths and short drives cleaned regularly, where storage space is limited

    8.7/10

    ≈ £150 / 130 €

  7. Starmix Durosweep 77 Pro

    770 mm width · up to 3 000 m² · two-stage pick-up · manual

A professional manual sweeper: two-stage pick-up, 77 cm of width, and a price to match.

Best for: Daily sweeping of large hard areas — yards, forecourts, industrial units

    8.1/10

    ≈ 625 €

Which one for which need

A large yard or driveway

The working width decides how many trips up and down you make. Over a large area, ten more centimetres change how long the chore takes.

Collecting leaves in autumn

Leaves take up a considerable volume for no weight at all. It is the hopper capacity that decides how often you empty it.

A patio and a few square metres

Over a small area, an affordable manual sweeper is enough and stows where a large machine will not fit.

Who each type suits

House with a yard or driveway
The typical case. A manual sweeper replaces the broom without noise or electricity, provided the surface is reasonably flat.
Large plot
Beyond a few hundred square metres, working width and hopper capacity become the only criteria that really matter.
Shared building or commercial premises
Quiet is the argument: a manual sweeper can be used early in the morning without waking anyone, unlike a blower.

The trade-offs to weigh

Width against manoeuvrability
A wide machine moves fast in a straight line and becomes a chore around flowerbeds and between cars. The right choice depends on the shape of the surface, not its size.
Capacity against pushing weight
A large hopper avoids emptying and makes the machine heavier as it fills. On a slope you feel it quickly.
Side brushes against maintenance
They let you sweep along a wall, and they wear out, collect threads and have to come off regularly. Without them, a strip stays along the edges.

Questions buyers ask

Does a sweeper work on gravel?

Badly. It throws the gravel and fills up with stones. It is made for hard surfaces: concrete, tarmac, slabs, outdoor tiling.

Does it pick up wet leaves?

Far less well than dry ones, which slide onto the brush. On wet leaves the brushes slip and the hopper clogs.

Does it need electricity?

Manual models need none: the brushes are driven by the wheels. That is their main advantage over a blower.

What is the difference from a blower?

The blower moves debris, the sweeper collects it. On a driveway edged with lawn, blowing amounts to moving the problem a metre.

How should the brush height be set?

They should skim the ground, not press on it. Too low and they wear out in a season and slow the machine; too high and they leave every other strip.

Can a sweeper be used indoors?

Yes, on a hard floor, in a garage or a workshop. It is even a comfortable use, since there is neither noise nor thrown-up dust.

How is it maintained?

Empty the hopper after each use, remove threads wound round the brushes, and store it dry. A brush left compressed against the ground deforms permanently.

What sweeping width suits a driveway?

A two-metre drive takes two passes with an eighty-centimetre brush, three with a sixty. The stated width converts straight into time spent.

What to remember

A sweeper is chosen on width if the area is open, on manoeuvrability if it is cluttered, and on hopper capacity as soon as there are trees. It does not replace a blower on gravel — it replaces one to advantage everywhere else.
