The best pressure washer lances and nozzles for 2026

The pump makes the pressure; the nozzle decides what it does to the surface. We cover fan jets by angle, turbo nozzles and the damage they do when held still, extension lances for gutters and undercarriage kits — with the fitting standard for each, because that is what makes a nozzle useless in practice.

What we recommend

  1. M&M Smartek dirt blaster rotary nozzle for Kärcher K4 to K7 pressure washers, product photograph

M&M Smartek Dirt Blaster Rotary Nozzle K4–K7

A pencil jet spun in a cone — the fastest nozzle on concrete and the most destructive on everything soft.

    Type
    Rotary (dirt blaster) nozzle

  2. M&M Smartek size 040 dirt blaster rotary nozzle, product photograph

M&M Smartek Dirt Blaster Size 040

The same rotary nozzle in a larger orifice — and the number is not a quality rating.

Which one for which need

Stripping dirt without gouging the surface

A zero-angle nozzle puts all the pressure on one point and marks wood as readily as mortar. The stated spray angle is what separates cleaning from damage.

Staying holdable for an hour straight

A long lance levers on the wrist, and the jet's kickback adds to the weight. Light models with a shoulder rest are what let you finish the wall.

Who each type suits

Patio and driveway
A rotary nozzle does the bulk of the stripping; a variable-angle fan nozzle finishes and catches the edges. The two together cover most of an outdoor space.
Car and delicate surfaces
An adjustable-pressure lance is the only accessory that really counts. A rotary nozzle on bodywork is the fastest way to mark it.
Façade and height
A telescopic lance saves the ladder, at the price of a considerable lever arm once it is full of water. Look at the stated weight with the lance empty, then mentally add the water.

The trade-offs to weigh

Rotary nozzle against fan nozzle
The rotary concentrates all the pressure on one spinning point: it strips fast and marks anything soft. The fan spreads and forgives. Neither replaces the other.
Universal against brand
Universal lances fit through adapter rings and sometimes leave a slack that weeps. A lance from the machine's own brand does not raise the question, and costs more for the same function.
A long lance reaches the roof and tires the arm
A long lance reaches the top of a wall without a ladder and becomes impossible to aim precisely a metre from the ground. Two short lances are often better than one long one.

Questions buyers ask

Which nozzle for which surface?

Rotary for soiled concrete, slabs and tarmac. 25° fan for garden furniture, walls and wood in good condition. 40° fan or low pressure for a car. The concentrated 0° nozzle has almost no safe domestic use.

Are lances interchangeable between brands?

Rarely directly. Each maker has its own locking system — bayonet, quarter-turn, thread. Adapters exist for the common combinations, but also check the permitted pressure of the assembly.

Can a nozzle wear out?

Yes, and it is invisible wear. The orifice widens over time, the pressure drops and the machine seems to be failing when it is perfectly fine. A nozzle is a consumable, not a part for life.

What is a telescopic lance worth?

It saves the ladder on a low façade, which is a real safety gain. Beyond three or four metres, the weight at arm's length makes precise work impossible.

Why does my lance leak at the connector?

Almost always a crushed or dried-out O-ring. It is a part costing a few cents that takes thirty seconds to replace, and which is replaced too late because people suspect the machine.

Does a foam nozzle replace a foam cannon?

No. A foam nozzle sprays a dilute mix; a foam cannon thickens it and makes the product cling to the surface long enough to work. On a car the difference is clear.

Can a nozzle be taken apart for cleaning?

Some can, with the supplied needle. A jet that veers off or fans out almost always signals a grain of sand, not wear.

What does the size stamped on a nozzle mean?

It is the orifice diameter, and it sets the flow it will pass: too small and the pressure climbs, too large and it collapses. The size is chosen on the machine, not on the surface.

What to remember

Two nozzles cover ninety per cent of uses: a rotary for stripping, a medium-angle fan for everything else. Check your machine's locking system before buying, and treat the nozzle as a wear part — falling pressure comes from it far more often than from the pump.
