Ecovacs Deebot T50 Omni Gen3 review

An extending side brush and mop pad: the answer to the corner every robot leaves untouched.

The bottom line The corner problem, taken seriously. Budget for the dock's footprint and its consumables before the machine.

The Deebot T50 Omni Gen3 attacks the weakness of every robot: TruEdge 2.0 extends both the side brush and the mop pad outward on the approach to a wall, backed by 25 000 Pa of suction and AIVI 3D 2.0 obstacle detection.

Why corners are the category’s problem

A round robot cannot reach into a right angle, so every fixed-pad machine leaves a border of dust and a dry strip along the skirting. Extending the brush helps; extending the mop is the part that matters, because the film along a kitchen kickboard is the visible failure.

Obstacle avoidance, honestly

Structured infrared plus camera identifies objects in three dimensions rather than guessing from a flat image. It is markedly better than early systems at cables and shoes. It is not perfect, and no robot is: the reliable technique is still to pick up cables and close doors on rooms you have not tidied.

The dock, and the running cost

Omni-type docks empty the robot, wash the mop and refill it. They also occupy a permanent metre of floor next to a socket, and they consume dust bags, pads, brushes and filters. Over three years those are a real fraction of the purchase price — price them before choosing a brand.

What we like, and what we don't

Strengths

  • The mop pad itself extends into corners, not just the brush
  • Structured infrared obstacle detection rather than camera alone
  • 25 000 Pa, at the top of the current domestic range

Compromises

  • Omni docks are large, and they need a permanent floor position with power
  • Consumables — bags, pads, brushes, filters — are proprietary and continuous
  • Not sold on Amazon's US store

Questions people actually ask

Does an extending mop actually reach the skirting?

Closer than a fixed round pad, which is the standard complaint about robots: a circle cannot clean into a right angle. Extending the pad on the approach to a wall covers most of the gap. It does not replace a hand pass in a tight corner behind furniture, and nothing in this category does.

Is 25 000 Pa meaningful?

Suction figures in this category have inflated fast, and past a point the limiting factor is the brush and the airflow path rather than the number. Treat it as a class indicator — 25 000 Pa is current flagship territory — rather than as a promise of proportionally better cleaning.
