The best pressure washer adapters and fittings for 2026

Nothing on this site causes more wasted purchases than fittings. Kärcher's bayonet, Nilfisk's Click&Clean, Bosch's connector and the M22 thread used by most trade machines are four different systems, and an accessory bought for the wrong one is simply a wrong accessory. We map which system each brand uses and which adapters bridge them honestly.

Adapters & fittings and who each one is for

Accessory from another brand
The most frequent case: a lance or a brush picked up secondhand, a connector that does not match. An adapter costs a few euros against several dozen for the branded accessory.
Machine replaced
Changing washer brand often makes accessories in good condition unusable. Two adapters are generally enough to recover the lot.
Water supply
Garden connectors look alike without being identical from one brand to another. An adapter of the right diameter removes leaks at the tap.

The trade-offs of adapters & fittings

Universality against sealing
Every added interface is a potential leak point. A quality adapter with a proper O-ring holds; a cheap one weeps the first time you put it under pressure.
Brass against plastic
Brass takes repeated tightening and costs more. Plastic is enough for occasional use and splits in its third season, usually at the thread.
A chain of adapters against changing accessory
Stacking two adapters to make a lance fit often costs more, in leaks and irritation, than buying the lance in the right standard.

What keeps coming up about adapters & fittings

How do I know which adapter I need?

Identify your machine's connector — bayonet, quarter-turn, M22 thread — then the accessory's. Adapters are almost always named "from X to Y", in that order.

What does M22 mean?

A 22-millimeter metric thread, very widespread on lances and hoses. Careful: it exists in two internal diameters, 14 and 15 mm (0.59 in), and they are not interchangeable.

Does an adapter lose pressure?

Negligibly if it keeps the internal diameter. An adapter with a narrower passage creates a restriction that is genuinely felt at the nozzle.

Why does my adapter leak?

A missing, dried-out or crushed O-ring, in that order of frequency. A new one costs a few cents and settles almost every case.

Can any accessory be adapted?

Technically often yes, but the accessory's permitted pressure must exceed the machine's. An accessory rated for 100 bar on a 150 bar machine is dangerous.

Do the threads need PTFE tape?

On threaded connectors without a built-in seal, one or two turns are enough. On an O-ring connector, tape adds nothing and gets in the way of tightening.

Brass or plastic?

Brass if the adapter stays in place or is tightened often. Plastic for occasional use, accepting that it will not last several seasons.

Does an adapter work either way round?

No: inlet and outlet carry different threads, male one side and female the other. An adapter fitted backwards will not screw on, and two adapters in series often solve the case.

In short, on adapters & fittings

An adapter recovers an accessory instead of buying another, provided you check two things: the direction of the connection and the permitted pressure. The O-ring is the part that decides the seal, and it is the one nobody thinks to replace.
