They need a low-foam solution designed for machines, and most makers require their own — household floor cleaner foams in the tank and can reach the pump.
Foam is the problem, not chemistry. A robot’s clean-water tank feeds a small pump and narrow lines, and a foaming product aerates in the tank, blocks the feed and can carry into the recovery side.
Household cleaners also leave a residue that the robot then spreads and re-wets every day, which is why floors go sticky after a few weeks of the wrong product.
Using a non-approved solution voids the warranty on most machines. If you want to avoid the branded price, look for a low-foam machine solution explicitly rated for robot mops, not for a bucket.
