Is longer always better?

No. A long hose is harder to push round a tight bend, and once thirty metres are inside a pipe it is easy to lose track of how much is where. Fifteen metres covers most domestic runs. Buy thirty when the run genuinely is thirty — and mark it every five metres with tape.

When the length is justified

House to street connection, long farm drains, industrial runs. For a domestic kitchen or bathroom stack, fifteen metres is usually more than enough and considerably easier to handle.

Marking is not optional

At thirty metres you cannot judge by feel how far in the nozzle is. Tape every five metres. That is what tells you whether you have reached the blockage, and it is what stops you pulling the hose out under pressure.
