Kärcher SC 2 Upright vs Vileda Steam Plus

Is a wood setting worth paying double for?

Both are floor-only steam mops. One is built around protecting delicate floors, the other around being used often.

A tick marks the better answer on that line only. Counting ticks does not decide the page — the two verdicts below do, because these machines answer different questions.

Which of the two, for which job

Buy the SC 2 Upright

Prefer the Kärcher if your floors mix tile and sealed wood. The lower setting is what keeps steam out of a laminate joint.

Buy the Steam Plus

Buy the Vileda for sealed tile and vinyl in a flat, cleaned often. It starts faster and costs half as much.

The questions we hear

Is steam safe on laminate?

It depends entirely on the joints and the finish. Sealed tile, porcelain and vinyl are fine. Laminate is a gamble — use the lowest setting, keep the head moving, and test in a corner behind a door before doing a room.

  • Kärcher SC 2 Upright

    30 s heat-up · 0.4 l refillable · 1,600 W · two steam settings

A steam mop with a wood setting and a tile setting — the distinction most machines pretend does not exist.

Best for: Sealed hard floors of mixed types — tile in the kitchen, engineered wood in the hall — cleaned weekly

    8.8/10

  • Vileda Steam Plus

    15 s heat-up · 400 ml · triangular head · PowerPad included

Fifteen seconds, a triangular head and a scrubbing pad — the cheapest sensible way to stop mopping with a bucket.
