Are original-brand vacuum filters worth the premium?

For fine dust and for anything sold to a filtration class, yes — for general workshop use, a well-reviewed third-party filter that fits properly is usually fine.

What you are paying for is the media and the seal. A filter that fits loosely lets unfiltered air past the edge, and no media specification survives that. Third-party filters vary far more in fit than in material.

Where the original matters most is dust class certification. A class M rating belongs to the machine and filter together; fitting an uncertified element means the machine is no longer rated.

For sawdust and general debris, the practical test is simple: does it seat with resistance, and does the machine hold suction as well as before.
